    Bronze sculpture depicting a seated lion roaring, resting on three legs, the right fourth immobilizing a snake coiled on the ground, facing the beast. Brown patina. Sculptor's signature "V . CHEMIN" . White marble base with brass plate marked "Lion on snake".

    Joseph François Victor Chemin was born in Paris on August 2, 1825, and died in Neuilly-sur-Seine on July 24, 1901.
    Victor Chemin was a French sculptor who studied under Antoine-Louis Barye .
    He began his career at the Salon in 1851, where he exhibited his works, mainly animal sculptures, until 1894.
    He was awarded the 3rd class medal in the sculpture section at the 1882 Salon.
