ALFRED THIELE (1886–1957)

Alfred Thiele , a renowned German sculptor and medalist , is characterized by a profound artistic sensibility .
Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig , in the great traditions of classical sculpture , Alfred Thiele distinguished himself within the 20th-century art scene by incorporating contemporary elements .

He worked briefly in Munich , before devoting himself fully to sculpture in his own studio , in Leipzig .
His sculptures , often influenced by nature and humanity , reveal an introspection that allows the viewer to establish an emotional connection with each work .

Beginning in 1921 , he taught at the Leipzig School of Applied Arts , where he headed the sculpture department until 1953 .
Alfred Thiele participated in numerous exhibitions across Europe , with his works being praised by critics of the time for their originality and technical mastery .
His extensive body of work includes exceptional animal sculptures and architectural works , which survived the destruction of World War II .
