A bronze sculpture with a brown patina depicting a lioness reclining in the antique style on a rectangular base.
Probably French or Italian work from the 19th century.

Length: 8.5 cm. Width: 5 cm. Height: 6 cm.

    Beautiful original brown patina.

This piece, inspired by antiquity, is reminiscent of the small cabinet bronzes produced in Italy during the 16th and 17th centuries, which themselves adopted the codes of the Renaissance and Antiquity.

In the 19th century, the historicist and neoclassical movements revived these themes. Small bronzes were then produced for the libraries and offices of the bourgeoisie and aristocracy, sometimes as part of the Grand Tour, to affirm one's taste for antiquity and the spirit of erudition that accompanied it.
