Pretty bronze with brown patina by Auguste Joseph PEIFFER (1832-1886), a French sculptor born in Paris, who mainly produced bronzes with allegorical and mythological subjects.
This work features a beautiful child holding his hunting dog on a leash, preventing him from reaching a partridge lying on the ground.
Barefoot and scantily clad, the chubby cherub pulls back firmly gripping the ties holding his large setter. This marks the stop on the bird that lies on a ground covered with foliage.
This sculpture is finely executed. The features are delicate and the details numerous.
The artist skilfully mixes the gentleness of a child and the strength of a hunting dog.
