A Grand Tour bronze with a brown patina depicting Venus Victrix (or Venus with the Apple), based on the original by sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen. Beautiful period patina in nuanced brown tones. Presented on a rectangular marble base.

Late 19th-century Italian or French cast.

    Total height: 27 cm.

Height of the bronze alone: 25 cm.

Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770–1844) modeled the original plaster of this work in Rome.

The statue was so successful that it was produced in numerous sizes and materials (bronze, Sèvres biscuit porcelain, Carrara marble) by various European foundries, particularly French and German ones, throughout the 19th century. The monumental marble version (approximately 160 cm) is now housed at the Thorvaldsen Museum in Copenhagen.

The sculpture depicts the goddess Aphrodite (Venus) immediately after the Judgment of Paris. She is shown standing in a light and elegant contrapposto pose. Her left hand holds a drape resting on a tree trunk, while she gazes at the trophy of her victory. In her right hand, she holds the golden apple, awarded by Paris to designate her as the most beautiful of the Olympian deities, thus surpassing Hera and Athena.
