Carved in the round, polychromed and gilded, these two angels face each other with solemnity and imposing presence.
Standing on one leg, they extend their arms in a gesture of offering. In the days of the Jerusalem Temple, they could have been protecting the tablets of the law!
A late 18th-century work, set on later wooden pedestals representing the cloud, a sign of His presence.
The terrace on which they rest is octagonal, echoing Christ's number, 8, which has neither beginning nor end.
    Appraised by Madame Laurence Fligny
