Our two figures are carved in the round from softwood.
The Old Testament and the New Covenant find many bridges. Here, the King of Salem wears a long beard and holds his attribute. These are the chains of a censer at his feet.
The Holy Woman, with clasped hands, wears a turban. This could be the Virgin Mary, as Mechisédec, having no father, no mother, no genealogy, no beginning for his days and no end for his life, is often associated with the Son of God, so our two figures are sometimes found in the same altarpiece.
A spectacular 19th-century work in the style of the late Middle Ages.
Dimensions 149 cm and 152 cm.
    Appraised by Cabinet Fligny
A few missing pieces and accidents
