Jacob D Rue Meslée, Stamped Empire period revolving armchair.

Mahogany and mahogany veneer desk chair from the house of Jacob Desmalter and Co., an association between Georges Jacob and his son François Honoré Georges Jacob Desmalter between 1803 and 1813.

A model of a powerful and elegant aestheticism, with a hemicycle back extended into finely carved armrests with ram's heads.
The circular seat rests on a frame supported by four console feet, an invention of Georges Jacob that he and his son revisited in the Empire style.

The seat, with horsehair, is covered with an old black leather of good quality, some scratches.
The swivel system is entirely original, brass rollers and rails in good working order.

The whole is in nice condition, with a nice mahogany, some scratches at the bottom of the legs, restorations.

After the death of the elder Jacob brother on 30 Vendemiaire Year XII (23 October 1803), François-Honoré formed a new partnership with his father Georges, under the name of "Jacob Desmalter et Cie".
When he was appointed cabinetmaker of the Emperor, his factory took a prodigious development. There were no less than fifteen workshops, seven of which were for carpentry, cabinetmaking and turning, three for carving, painting and gilding on wood, three others for working with bronzes, one for upholstery and the last one for mechanical locksmithing. The father was always active and wise, watching over everything.
It was at this time that Jacob Desmalter, working with the painter David and the ornamentalists Percier and Fontaine, created the Empire style, imitating the antique and seeking in the art of imperial Rome its sumptuous, majestic and powerful lines.
