Pair of Louis XV period cabriolet armchairs, molded and carved with flowers, circa 1760. The cabriolet backs, armrests with cuffs on curved brackets, curved legs and sinuous waistband are all typical of 18th-century French seating.
The armchairs were restored some fifteen years ago. The woods are sound and solid, and the light-blue lacquer applied on this occasion retains a soft, even patina.
The upholstery is traditional, horsehair, comfortable and in perfect condition.
At great expense, they have been upholstered in "Lampas Chinois" fabric by Edmond Petit, a high-quality silk upholstery fabric featuring chinoiserie motifs: pavilions, foliage, flowers and stylized birds, on a navy blue background. The overall effect is one of harmony between the tone of the painting and the fabric.
