Rare Etruscan chair, called "Klismos", in mahogany, from the late Louis XVI-Directoire period, by Georges Jacob (1739-1814).
This model, of which Georges Jacob was the precursor, with its front and back legs in saber form, as well as its backrest surmounted by a large curved band, has the appearance of the antique "Klismos" chair.

This Klismos chair by Georges Jacob is directly "plagiarized" from the antique, following the discoveries during the excavations of Herculaneum and Pompeii.
The ornamentalists Charles Percier, Pierre-Léonard Fontaine and de la MESANGERE made several preparatory drawings.
Some great Parisian cabinetmakers of the late 18th century created their own version(s) of the Klismos chair: Georges Jacob (and later his sons), Jean-Baptiste-Claude Sené, Pierre-Benoît Marcion, Bernard Molitor and Jean-Baptiste Bernard Demay.

Beautiful state of conservation, perfectly stable (without reinforcement), restoration of use.
Elegant velvet of good quality with crosses on an ecru background.

Stamped G.IACOB, stamp used by Georges Jacob from 1765 to 1796.

Late LouisXVI-Directoire period, between 1790 and 1796.
