Living room furniture set consisting of a set of 6 Queen-style armchairs, a pair of matching bergère chairs, and a matching wicker sofa. Queen-style armchairs with elegantly molded medallion backs, fluted legs with rudenté detailing, and finely carved connecting blocks. Parisian work from the Louis XVI period. All the chairs bear the stamp of Jacques Lechartier, except for the chaise longue, which is attributed to this cabinetmaker.
Jacques Lechartier (1754–1809), a Parisian cabinetmaker, was admitted to the guild on September 9, 1773. He resided on Rue de Charenton until 1789. He left his J. LECHARTIER mark on beautiful, understated, and elegant chairs.
This living room set offers a very rare opportunity to acquire furniture in its original configuration—complete and numerous—that has not been broken up into pairs or individual pieces. The design is elegant and well-crafted.
Our chairs are in good overall condition: the woodwork is sound (reinforcement on the back of one bergère, an armrest reattached on one armchair), and they have retained their embossed velvet upholstery dating from the late 19th century, which has faded slightly to an orange-pink hue and shows some signs of wear. The upholstery is sound and could be reupholstered, though they can be kept as is for everyday use, giving a nice, authentic “as-is” look. We can have them reupholstered and re-covered by our upholsterer (please contact us).
