Beautiful çuval from Fethiye, southwest Turkey. Traditionally used by the nomadic populations of Anatolia to transport and store grain, these sacks were then untied and opened to be transformed into floor mats or passageways.
This model is a perfect illustration of this tradition: woven and embroidered wool on wool using ancestral techniques, it features a face richly worked with geometric and symbolic motifs, while the reverse is made up of horizontal stripes in matching shades. The colors, obtained from vegetable dyes, are soft and harmonious.
In very good condition, with only two minor, barely visible restorations.
