19th century Maffrash - Shahsavan, Persia. Circa 1880
Dimensions: 120 x 55 x 45 cm
Superb antique Maffrash, made by the nomadic Shahsavan tribes of northwest Persia, dated circa 1880. These large textile saddlebags were traditionally used in pairs, carried on the backs of dromedaries for seasonal travel.
Entirely embroidered wool on wool, this Maffrash is distinguished by the exceptional finesse of its motifs. The precision of the embroidery seems to be sculpted into the material, so clean and expressive are they.
The color palette, 100% vegetable dyes, offers remarkable luminosity and striking freshness.
Very good overall condition. Two discreet old restorations.
This type of piece can be displayed as a trunk, used as a coffee table or transformed into a two-seater bench. I would be delighted to help you make the most of it.
