    Antique Aubusson tapestry wall hanging. Late 19th century, circa 1880.
    This antique Aubusson tapestry, inspired by the French Romantic movement, is a work of art. Its historical value far outweighs the damage caused by centuries of wear and tear. The production of rugs and tapestries in Aubusson ended around 1870, and it is this 200-year period that attracts rug enthusiasts. Aubusson tapestries and rugs are part of the Renaissance arts and still play an important role in our culture today.

    This Aubusson tapestry is a classic example of French Romanticism. It features a cartouche of flowers and foliage, and a rooster
    associated with the Renaissance and therefore the return of summer, as it celebrates the return of the sun each morning with its song. A magnificent palette of softer spring colors surrounds the unusual center of this tapestry.

    Dimensions: 280 x 150 cm
    Condition: This tapestry is a fragment; the upper outer border has been replaced on one side in its center, measuring 75 cm long and 40 cm wide. A few other small restoration points are not visible throughout the tapestry. Minor wear.
