Tapestry wedding scene. Unknown author. Presumably mid-17th century. The word tapestry appeared in France in the 17th century, from products made by the Gobelin brothers' factory. It was the masters of Flanders who began to produce tapestries based on paintings by great artists. With a modest palette of six colors, local weavers achieved stunning artistic results using special etching and shading techniques.
