<meta charset="UTF-8" />- This wool and silk tapestry offers us an open window onto greenery where nature cohabits with the presence of man signified by architectural elements in the background. The vegetation on display appears with a great deal of character, reflected in the two imposing, twisting trees in the center of the tapestry, which rise to the full height of the tapestry, with a vital plant at its foot. This vegetation is joined by birds, whose presence further enlivens the composition.

- This tapestry is typical of the Verdures produced between the 17th and 18th centuries in the Aubusson region. Of infinite variety, Verdures remain a constant in the production of these workshops, making them one of their favorite themes. This was a highly exported mass production for a clientele delighted to find a decorative object to refresh their interiors, and even more so when these weavings were hung together to form a "verdure room".
While the main theme of these tapestries is the display of verdant nature, their differences lie in the quality of the design, the finesse of the weaving and the borders. The tapestry we're looking at has a decorative border featuring elegant motifs of flowers and carefully composed ornaments, arranged in the form of candelabras, in symmetrical compositions on a brown background. Note the original aquatic ornaments (dolphins, shells). The border, also dating from the 18th century, is attached.
