    A finely chiseled gilded bronze clock depicting the goddess Venus seated by a hearth, surrounded by a blind Cupid (Eros) searching for his bow and quiver, and his brother Anteros* hiding an arrow from him, enameled dial with Roman numerals and a calendar framed by two Vestal Virgins holding palm branches; the base is decorated with swans and a garland of foliage; dates from the First Empire period, early 19th century.
    This clock is in good condition and of remarkable quality. The dial is signed by the clockmaker Renaux in Paris and features the dates (calendar). The cord-winding movement is in working order; it has been serviced (we have its key and the balance wheel).
    Please note: the gilding is worn in places (please look closely at the photos); there are a few small chips on the dial near the winding holes, as well as wear and scratches from age—see photos.
    * Eros and Anteros
    According to several mythological accounts, Venus is said to have given Eros a brother, as Eros had stopped growing out of boredom. His name is Anteros, literally “Returned Love,” and he symbolizes reciprocal love, which grows stronger and deeper when it is reciprocated.
