An exceptional alcove clock with a distinctively shaped, five-color floral marquetry inlay, set against a brass background forming arabesques. The console and upper section are a single piece. This clock is enhanced by gilt and chased bronze mounts: the lower section is decorated with a central clasp framed by reeds extending into palmettes.
The upper section, containing the movement, is adorned with beaded foliage on either side of a decorative frieze. The central section opens onto a door embellished with a decorative motif surmounted by a motif featuring foliate interlacing and a child's mask. The upper part of the central section is adorned with four espagnolettes with plumes. The whole is crowned by a tarpaulin garland, its center adorned with a palmette of stylized scrolls supporting a vase of flowers.
The movement is a pull-cord type indicating the hours, quarters, and half-hours. The guilloché bronze dial is chased with Arabic numerals indicating the minutes and enameled Roman numerals for the hours. The movement is signed "Collier à Paris," meaning Jacques Collier, who was a free watchmaker from 1721.
