Set of two spoons
Island of Timor, Indonesia
First half of the 20th century
Wood and brown horn
H. 17 ; L. 5 cm and H. 9 ; L. 5,5 cm
(old accident)
The largest wooden spoon has an oval spoon marked with two excrescences with double square sections. The handle, long in front, takes all its volume in profile.
Indeed, a stylized serpentine figure marked with fine incisions constitutes almost the entire body of the handle. It surmounts a rhombic section included in two rectangular beaded friezes and is topped by two birds facing each other.
The beak of one of them is missing.
The second spoon, shorter with a round spoon, is made of brown horn, its straight handle is ringed with six flat or conical rings carved in alternation and finished with a folded tongue carved into a point.
The bird symbolizes the link between Heaven and Earth.
