    MASK "Elected"
    Culture Ogoni, Nigeria
First half of the 20th century
    Wood, fabric and pigments
    H .: 36; L .: 22; Thickness: 18 cm

Polychrome wood female facial mask with crusty patina. It is covered with green pigments for the skin and black for the hair and brown for certain details such as the nostrils, ears or even the lips.
The special feature of these masks is the mouth joint. In fact, the lower jaw is made mobile thanks to four holes drilled at each end of the lower and upper jaws, and held together with ribbons of fabric. This game allows you to discover small teeth.
The mask is crowned with a hairstyle in striated shells and decorated with updos on the side parts. The cheeks are punctuated with two short vertical white lines, while the temples are decorated with two squares of scarifications.
    The reverse is left raw.
