    Pomponne bleeding case - pocket medical kit - Second half of the 18th century

    small cylindrical bleeding case in finely engraved pomponne, French work of the 18th century.

    The case opens with a hinged lid and contains two folding lancets with blond horn handles. The engraved decoration of geometric friezes and rosettes is typical of small precious objects of the late 18th century.

    These pocket-sized medical sets were used by surgeons, barbers and private practitioners for bloodletting and minor medical procedures.

    A fine object of medical curiosity and ancient folk art.

    Condition:
