Important red marble inkwell surmounted by a gilt bronze sculpture.
The bronze depicts an allegory of history: a draped woman holding a scroll.

On either side of the sculpture are two containers with lids.
At the front is a third compartment with a lid for holding ink.
    A recessed pen holder.
It rests on seven turned bronze feet.
