Antique Art Deco sculpture of the Crowned Body of Christ, made of silver alloy and signed by E. Vlaminck
Created by the French sculptor E. Vlaminck, this Corpus of Christ depicts Him crowned with the crown of thorns as the “King of the Jews” and shown dead, pierced by the Holy Lance.
This depiction is deeply moving while maintaining a naturally geometric design, in keeping with the Art Deco period (1910–1939) in which it was created. The gray regule gives it an immortal appearance, symbolizing the transfiguration of Christ.
Signed “E. Vlaminck” on the back, this work was reproduced based on the model conceived by the artist, who patented the sculpture and sold it with or without a cross to devout Christians in the early 20th century.
