The Galerie le Jardin Des Moines, specializing in religious antiques and sacred art, presents an imposing 17th-century Italian tabernacle.
This tabernacle, crafted from marbled and gilded wood, is a remarkable piece from the Rome region. It dates from the second half of the 17th century. The front features four white marbled wood columns topped with gilded Corinthian capitals. Two columns at the rear complete the structure. The central niche is protected by a door decorated with a chalice in glory, borne by a cloud and surmounted by the monogram of Christ. It measures 104 cm high, 85 cm wide, and 51 cm deep. It is in good condition, with some minor losses or chips to the gilding and no key. Reference 861.
The feeding pelican, also from the 17th century, is a later addition. It crowns the tabernacle and perfectly complements this exceptional piece in terms of style, origin, period, and, above all, symbolism. The pelican symbolizes paternal love; the bird here pierces its breast with its beak to feed its young with its own flesh and blood, and by extension, it represents Christian love.

    Dimensions: 43 cm x 50 cm
The tabernacle can also be purchased separately.
