Although it is a facsimile, it is indeed a relic of contact, as this nail is said to have touched an authentic nail from the Cross. It was produced by the Monastery of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem in 1853.
Made of forged metal and tied with a ribbon sealed with red wax, it comes with its precious certificate of origin.
This certificate states: To each and every one who examines this letter, we attest and certify that this iron nail, bound with a red silk ribbon bearing our small seal, has been brought into contact with the holy Nail preserved by us, Cistercians, in the inner chapel of the holy relics of the Urban Basilica of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem; which is one of those with which Our Lord Jesus Christ was nailed to the Cross; and that this same nail is crafted with such artistry that it appears very similar [to that one]. Given in Rome, at our monastery of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem, in the year 1853.
In a modern, double-sided, glass-fronted reliquary in fine condition, measuring 36 cm high by 20 cm wide.
Dimensions of the nail: 12 cm
