Galerie le Jardin Des Moines, specializing in religious antiques and sacred art, presents a pair of silver monstrances by Armand Caillat from the 19th century

Our imposing twin monstrances represent a rare configuration in the liturgy, as the monstrance is traditionally used individually to display a single consecrated host. However, they are sometimes found in pairs when they flanked a high altar symmetrically, or because they were used for separate side altars.

The bases of these monstrances are richly decorated with floral motifs in high relief, at the center of which stands a magnificent Salvator Mundi, flanked by the Virgin Mary holding an Agnus Dei.
The ensemble is crowned by a finely chased cross.
A creation by the Lyon-based master silversmith Armand Caillat, circa 1869.
Bears the master’s hallmark A.C.S. with a bee and the 950/1000 silver hallmark.
Total gross weight per piece: 2,066 grams.
Dimensions: 80 cm high, 37 cm wide, and 21.5 cm deep.
Condition: shows signs of use—minor chips—lacks the lunule
Reference numbers 872 and 925
It is possible to purchase just one of these remarkable pieces.
