Louis XIV period Dauphiné marquetry chest of drawers. Early 18th century, circa 1710/1720, Grenoble region. It features a slightly curved front and opens with four drawers. The marquetry is composed of olive wood (bois de fil and bois de bout), walnut, violet wood fillets and alternating fillets of light and dark wood (boxwood and immersed oak). The drawer fronts are inlaid with butterfly-winged olive framed by alternating fillets of violet wood in reserves. The sides feature a central olive lozenge surrounded by a triple walnut and violet wood frame. The top features a geometric design of circles and spandrels in violet wood and walnut, framed by olive-tree motifs in end grain and grain wood, all surrounded by alternating wood fillets. Drop handles and keyways in gilded and chased bronze. The gilding has been redone. The locks are original, functional and keyed. The frame and mouldings are in fir, walnut and oak.
