Marquetry chest of drawers, in veneer of various woods, of the taste of the transitional period Louis XV / Louis XVI.
It opens with 4 drawers, when it gives the illusion of having only 3, because of the crosspiece that is hidden between the 3rd and the last of them (characteristic that would allow to suppose a royal origin to this piece of furniture). Its drawers have all their bottoms in Oak, open with brass handles and are locked with locks with entries of the same metal.
The whole front is generously decorated with Rosewood Marquetry. The first drawer offers friezes in light wood veneer of Lemon and Ebony for the fillets, with Amaranth intercalating each of them. We find these same patterns on the sides of the furniture. The 3 other drawers are shaped in Chevrons for one, in Butterfly wings for the 2 others. These drawers are surrounded by mahogany veneer, as are the uprights of this piece of furniture. We will also find, in a moderate way, in front and on the sides, frames with Greek Corners.
Its top in grey marble "Ste Anne de France", with a throat, is cut with a projection at the front and at the back, thus marrying the uprights of this piece of furniture which are also cut. Similarly, the edge, in the central part of the marble, is cut back, as is the front, which gives a particular identity to this chest.
It rests on 2 curved feet at the front, finished by brass shoes. The 2 back legs are straight.
In addition to its unusual number of drawers on this type of chest of drawers, this piece of furniture also has the specificity of being high on legs.
