Oil on panel
32 x 41 cm (47 x 56 cm with frame)
Beautiful Empire period frame
Beautiful landscape painting from the French neo-classical school. Philippe Budelot's painting is characterized by the finesse of the trees, the colorful figures and the classical composition, with a path through the forest on which small figures walk.
A pupil of Lazare Bruandet, Philippe Budelot exhibited forest views between 1791 and 1829, mainly from Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Fontainebleau and the Paris region. In his compositions, the figures were often painted by Demay, Swébach or Taunay. He was renowned for his sense of perspective, his finish, the drawing of the woods and the softness of his tones, as well as his work on chiaroscuro.
