Albert Fernand-Renault was born in Paris in 1887. A pupil of Cormont, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris, where he won a silver medal in 1928 and a gold medal in 1931. A painter of nudes and landscapes, he skilfully painted many views of Brittany and some very fine female nudes.
A post-Impressionist, his paintings are executed with broad, generous brushstrokes in pastel hues, his hand sure and his composition unhesitatingly constructed. While his landscapes burst with light, it is still decomposed in the manner of the Impressionists, but the large flat tints of color are more reminiscent of the Nabis. Here and there, a few figures seem to be strolling along, giving us a peaceful image of Brittany as we like it, luminous, the sky just animated by one or two white clouds heralding fine weather.
