He was a pupil of Jean-Paul Laurens in Paris. He worked mainly in the Toulouse region. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1895, and was mentioned in 1903.
He also appeared at the Salon des Indépendants a few years before the First World War, when he exhibited in Russia, reportedly at the request of the Empress.

A friend of Henri Martin, Artigue drew his inspiration from southern landscapes and everyday country life. His painting is pointillist, lively, warm and colorful.
