Original oil on original canvas, signed lower right and titled on the back.
Stunning representation of the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute in Venice, located at the southern end of the Grand Canal.
It should be noted that the construction of this building lasted more than 50 years (1631-1687) and that it still contains today and within its sacristy, many paintings including the famous "Wedding at Cana" by TINTORET.
Sublime colors, remarkable precision of the many details, beautiful luminosity, in short, a perfectly executed and balanced work.
The influence of the DUFY brothers is very present here but cannot of course and in any way undermine the immense talent of our artist, quite the contrary. A feast for the eyes.

CONDITION
Painting : Original unobtrusive drips of paint (one in the upper left corner and the other at lower left) and a small scratch all the way down to the right, otherwise in perfect overall condition.
Frame : Gilded molded frame, in fair condition (many age wear marks or small lacks of gilding mainly at the outer side edges and corners as well as traces of recovery (still gilding) on the front of the frame.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Catherine GARROS has always had a pencil handy. Self-taught, she draws on any occasion. However, she does not follow an academic course at the Beaux-Arts or the Arts-Deco. She attends a few classes that reinforce her passion for watercolor, which she declines exclusively through seascapes. She began to paint in oil in 1990. Little by little, the characters appeared on her canvases, and the landscapes diversified. Influenced by Raoul DUFY and Henri MATISSE, she is the youngest of the great names of the current École Provençale. By contemplating his works, one immediately guesses the feminine sensitivity of his precise hand, transmitting through each painting a real joie de vivre, a cheerfulness and a childlike optimism. A gentle tranquility emerges from his paintings, a rhythm all in lightness and a subtle palette. "I need the color, especially the warm ones !" she declares.
Catherine GARROS is an outstanding colorist. His luminous paintings tell us about the simple little pleasures of life, and invite us to wander and party. Busy fishermen, small port where barges contemplate the boats, picturesque markets of Provence, merry-go-rounds and carousels of yesteryear,… She does not imitate, does not copy, but recreates a personal world, a poetic and original metaphor for reality.
