André Petroff was born in St. Petersburg in 1894, he studied with Bilibine and Roerich. Subsequently in 1920 in Paris, he was enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, in the studio of Cormon. From 1923 he settled in Nice where he spent most of his career as a painter.
