An Oil On Canvas, Portraot Of Woman By Adélaïde Salles-Wagner
SALLES-WAGNER Adelaide, née Wagner
Born in 1825 in Dresden. Died July 2, 1890 in Paris.
XIXth century. Active in France. German
Painter of history, religious, mythological, allegorical subjects, genre scenes, portraits.
Sister of the painter Puyroche-Wagner. She was a pupil of Claude Jacquand in Lyon, of Joseph Bernhardt no doubt during her stay in Paris or at his school in Munich. She came to work in Paris and married Jules Salles, dividing her life between Nîmes and Paris. From 1866, she exhibited at the Paris Salon; in 1873 in Vienna; in 1879 in Munich.
She painted the subjects of her compositions with a straightforward and confident touch, on backgrounds serving as discreet backdrops.
