This is a sketch for the portrait of Vice-Admiral Jacques Bergeret (1771-1857) which is at the Chateau de Versailles (218 x 142 cm, inv. MV4822, MI 201) and which was commissioned by Napoleon III for the historical museum of Versailles. There are many differences between the final painting (see last photo) and our sketch.
