Large bronze depicting the Death of the Duke of Clarence at a tournament: beautiful brown patina, the large number of fine, precise details make this sculpture lively and dynamic.

The gothic-style base in carved wood is decorated with coats of arms and cartouches recounting this historic episode in the 100 Years' War;
The plinth's portout bears the title "Mort de Monseigneur le duc de Clarence, Frère du roi AngloisHenri V occi au combat du Vieil Beauge par Grant de Fontaine, Chevalier dans l'ost de Monseigneur le Dauphin - Chroniques d'Albion" ("Death of Monseigneur the Duke of Clarence, Brother of the English KingHenri V occi in the battle of Vieil Beauge by Grant de Fontaine, Knight in the ost of Monseigneur the Dauphin - Albion Chronicles")

The Duke of Clarence, son of Henry V of England, recognizable here by the crown on his helmet, confronts the knight Garin de Fontaine, representing the House of Anjou. His rearing horse and broken lance indicate that he will soon lose this tournament.

This model was created in 1838 by Alfred Emile de Nieuwerkerke (1811-1892): a pupil of James Pradier, it is one of his most famous creations.
Several models, with different shades of color, can be found in the Musée du Château de Blois and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

Sculpture not signed by the artist, but stamped oskar Gladenbeck GMBH (foundry in Berlin)

Good overall condition, slight patina wear (on the base), some parts of the horse's bardes (reins...) are missing.
