Jesus crucified with crown of thorns signed Antonio Ramalho Contemporary folk art 21st century
Created by Portuguese sculptor Antonio Ramalho, this style is unique to this line of artists.
The origins of this style date back to Rosa Ramalho (1888 - 1977), a sculptor and ceramist emblematic of Portuguese ceramics in Barcelos, who began her career in art at the age of 68.
Her style quickly became popular for its contemporary allure with a strong identity, between folklore and religion. His great-grandson, Antonio Ramalho, continues to perpetuate his art, in a more surrealist vein than Rosa.
This Jesus is modern & surreal. Its elongated shape gives it a soft appearance, with its green glaze, and a powerful character: the Passion of Christ.
Ideal for a collection of modern & contemporary sacred art ceramics to hang or stand.
