Magnificent gondola chair in gilded wood and carved with flowers, lotus, water leaves and palmettes of the Empire period, stamped JACOB D RUE MESLEE (association between Georges Jacob and his son François Honoré, known as Jacob Desmalter, between 1803 and 1813).

Characteristic form of the Etruscan return, very popular under the first Empire: the saber feet, the continuous rounded line of the back ending in a volute at the perfect limit of the belt.
The edges of the backrest have a rectangular profile, creating a flat upper surface.
The same chair design can be found in several models referenced in "le mobilier français Consulat et Empire" by Jean-Pierre Samoyault.

- in the boudoir of the Sovereign Prince's apartment in Compiègne, commissioned by Jacob Desmalter in 1807.

-the gilded wood gondola chairs in the Empress's bathroom at Fontainebleau. Delivered by Jacob Desmalter in 1808.

-the chairs for the bedroom of King Louis in Amsterdam, delivered by Jacob Desmalter in 1806.

Very good condition, some repairs to the gilding. Perfect stability.
Green silk upholstery with Imperial fleurons.

Empire period, around 1805.
