Double-layer cut blue crystal oil and vinegar cruet, solid silver mount by Alphonse Debain, attributed to Baccarat or Saint-Louis, early 20th century
Description:
Exceptional Rocaille-style oil and vinegar cruet, dating from the Belle Époque, composed of two double-layered cobalt-blue cut crystal bottles, probably from the Baccarat or Saint-Louis crystal works. The crystal, blown and wheel-cut, has the transparency and brilliance characteristic of the great French houses. Each bottle is adorned with its original stopper, also hand-cut from the same two-tone crystal.
The bottles are set in finely openworked solid silver frames decorated with scrolls and rocaille motifs. The metalwork is of the highest quality, in the Louis XV style. The mounting is hallmarked by the Parisian silversmith Alphonse Debain, active at 79 rue Vieille-du-Temple in Paris between 1911 and 1916, and known for his fine silver tableware.
Very fine condition. The silver is well preserved with a beautiful antique patina. The bottles are intact, with no chips or restorations.
Dimensions: 26 cm long, 14 cm wide, 27 cm high.
Silver weight: 390 grams.
France, circa 1911-1916.
A rare, high quality piece, perfect for a collection or a ceremonial table.
