Kilim Kars - Northeastern Anatolia
Circa 1920 - 320 x 130 cm
Superb kilim from Kars, in northeastern Anatolia, on the edge of the Caucasus.
Woven wool on wool using traditional techniques, this large-format kilim captivates with its fine weave, suppleness and lightness.
The composition, rare and perfectly mastered, revolves around soft, vegetal hues: luminous ochres, deep reds and an intense, almost velvety indigo blue structure the whole with elegance.
Slight migrations of red on contact with certain white motifs are to be noted, but remain discreet.
A fine example of the region's textile expertise.
