This marvelous Anatolian cereal pouch, dating from the late 19th century, is immediately captivating with its saturated vegetal hues.
A veritable festival of colors emerges from this weave, carried by natural pigments of rare density and vivacity.
The central section, made up of two wide bands, is woven using the Sumak technique - an elaborate weaving technique akin to embroidery, with a second weft thread used to draw the motifs in relief.
This exacting, meticulous method lends the textile a rich texture and refined graphics.
This çuvâl (carrier bag), entirely made from hand-spun wool on wool, is a magnificent example of utilitarian art.
Once used to store and transport grain, it is now an art object in its own right, imbued with memory and ancestral know-how.
