Charming ormolu clock with slightly rounded edges, the front of which is decorated with floral compositions in relief. The clock rests on small flanged toupie feet.
The center features an enameled dial surrounded by a chased bronze surround. Two slightly openworked hands. The upper part of the clock, in the shape of a semicircle, is engraved with laurel leaves, a large bow and an inscription: "A Cythère" (To Cythera).
Above, a bird with outstretched wings holds a letter in its beak. At the sides we find a cherub, finger pointing skywards, his arn held firmly in his hand. Finally, a standing dog turning towards the angel also holds a letter.
    "A Cythère":
"Aller à Cythère" or "S'embarquer pour Cythère" is a poetic expression meaning "to fall in love", with a feeling of novelty, of a first time. Indeed, when we discover the island of Kythera, we better understand this beautiful expression, which designates the beginning of a delightful voyage, rich in promise. Aphrodite, goddess of Love and Beauty, was born on the shores of Kythera.
