Jean-Pierre Pérache or Perrache was one of the most important Parisian watchmakers of the second third of the 18th century.
From the outset of his career, he enjoyed great renown and received major private commissions. Several of his clocks are described in 18th-century after-death inventories of major collectors of the period, including those belonging to Bernard de Saint-Germain, Jean-Pierre de Rouillé and André Roussel de Jorant, as well as those belonging to Philippe-Jules-François Mazarini-Mancini duc de Nevers, grand-nephew of Cardinal de Mazarin, and to the widow of Charles de Savalette de Magnanville, a powerful fermier-général and former director of the Compagnie des Indes. Last but not least, one of his clocks was in the French royal collection at the time of the French Revolution.
