Superb Pair of Decorative Vases in Red "Griotte Rouge de Belgique" Marble and chased and gilded bronzes in the Louis XVI style, late 19th century. Dimensions Height: 48 cm Width 20 cm Depth 19 cm.
Architecture Vase: of fine workmanship and large dimensions, the ensemble is composed of an attractive Baluster-shaped body, with side handles decorated with Swan necks and outstretched wings in applique and palmettes, joined by a beautiful draped decoration and falling knot on the fronts.Resting on a pedestal base decorated with stylized acanthus leaves and large pearls and rushes, and on a square base with curved corners, it features a rounded closed molded covered pot with foliate decoration, ending in a pretty pomegranate burst button.
Condition report: Beautifully gilded and in superb original condition, with only minor traces of age and use. Marble chips filled in. Magnificent shine on marble.
Marble: "Griotte Rouge de Belgique" not commonly used, Griotte rouge improperly called griotte because only the color is reminiscent of morello cherry. Often confused with Rouge Royal. References: Château de Versailles.
