Charming little Louis XVI-style footstool, made in the late 19th century.
Made of carved and painted beechwood, it stands on four tapered legs with rings and flutes, topped by connecting dice carved with diamond points. The crosspieces are molded, in keeping with neoclassical decorative vocabulary.
The structure is sound and the wood in good condition. The stool features an antique paint finish in bluish-gray tones, partially worn by the passage of time.
Minor scratches and rubbing reveal an ochre undercoat and remnants of gilding, suggesting that it was originally gilded - a common practice in Louis XVI-style furniture at the end of the 19th century.
The seat has been freshly reupholstered, in very good condition, and covered with a top-of-the-range fabric by Lelièvre - Quenin collection, "Églantine" model, with stylized floral motifs in bright, contrasting tones. Matching trimmings underline the belt.
