Rare French decorative clock from the second half of the 19th century, made during the Second Empire (circa 1860-1880), in a late Empire style with Louis XVI influences.
The movement is housed in a patinated bronze celestial sphere, decorated with stars in relief, surmounted by an imperial eagle with outstretched wings - an emblem of Napoleonic power. Three stylized ormolu dolphins support the sphere, forming a balanced, majestic composition.
The circular white marble base is decorated with finely chased plant garlands and a beaded frieze, typical of the neo-classical taste. The white enamel dial is embellished with black and gold Arabic numerals and delicate hand-painted garlands of flowers. Please note: visible chips on the dial enamel. Gilded brass openworked hands.
Condition: good overall condition, slight age-related wear, enamel chips, movement untested and in need of overhaul.
Dimensions: 28 cm high.
A collector's item, emblematic of imperial aesthetics and the skills of 19th-century French bronziers.
Style: Late Empire, Louis XVI elements, Napoleon III period
