Our Diane in bronze has a dark brown patina, signed Falguière, bears the Thebaut frères fondeurs Paris stamp and rests on a red marble base.
Jean Alexandre Joseph FALGUIERE studied at the Beaux-Arts in Paris and started at the Salon in 1857. Aged 28 in 1859, he won the Prix de Rome. Many medals will follow (silver, gold ..) and state orders.
His first works are marked by classicism, then he asserts himself in a more realistic tendency.
He made many bronzes, statues, but also monument decorations for Pasteur, Balzac, Gambetta.
Exterior decorations of Palaces (Discovery Palace), or statues in churches (Sainte-Germaine church in Toulouse).
His influence and fame are such that a replica of his Monument to Léon Gambetta can be found in Ho Chi Minh City.
