Extremely rare pair of gilt bronze and patinated mantel lights in their very good original condition, from the Empire period.
Superb applied gilded bronzes: masks of divinities and two panthers drinking from a vase fountain.
Model with antique vase and top ball.
Claude Galle delivered fifteen pairs of these lights to the Palais de Fontainebleau in 1806.
The 1807 inventory lists five more in the palace:
-in the salon of the prince's apartment no. 1 of the Porte Dorée pavilion
- The second salon and Madame mère's bedroom.
- Salon of the Princess of Guastalla's apartment (no. 10 of the Cour des Princes).
- The King of Holland's bedroom.
The Mobilier National holds a pair, inventory number GML 8371-000.
