Magnificent kilim from Hakkari, in the far east of Anatolia, a region with a rich Kurdish heritage.
Traditionally woven wool on wool, this kilim is distinguished by its extremely tight, regular weave, testifying to exceptional refinement.
As is often the case with 19th-century pieces, it is composed of two symmetrical panels joined by a central seam.
The plant palette is of rare harmony, with sublime indigo blues of striking depth.
The braided fishnet bangs, typical of Kurdish work, add a unique signature to the ensemble.
