In carved wood, a mandorla holds a relic of St. Alphonsus de Liguori, who had just been beatified.
In fact, this is a relic of the Blessed de Ligori, future Saint and later Doctor of the Church, offered for devotion in the form of dust. Few relics are found in "ex.polvere" form, which adds to the interest of this piece.
On the back are three wax seals protecting access to the venerated treasure.
Italian work, probably Tuscan.
